The Education and Training Inspectorate do not expect anything new or additional solely for the purposes of inspection.
Inspection evidence about the work and life of the school (including the children and young people’s views of school life and their learning experiences and the impact of actions taken to promote improvement) is obtained through:
- questionnaires completed by pupils, parents and staff (if applicable);
- meeting with groups of children and young people;
- observing learning and teaching in lessons and beyond the classroom;
- reviewing samples of the children and young peoples’ work; and
- discussion with teachers, co-ordinators and middle leaders, senior leaders, other staff and governors.
In terms of documentation to support inspection, this can be split into three groups:
- Required documentation:
- The school development plan and associated action plans and evaluations
- The Education and Training Inspectorate’s safeguarding proforma
- Key statistical information
- Timetables
- Access to routine working documents (in whatever format they are held by the school):
- School policies
- Individual education plans
- Long- and medium-term planning
- Helpful information on full inspections(such as)::
- Inspection overview document (post-primary)
- Evaluation of outcomes for pupils proforma (post-primary)
- Governance self-evaluation proforma
