District Inspector

The role of the District Inspector (DI) is central to the work of the Education and Training Inspectorate.  Most inspectors are deployed as District Inspectors and support and challenge their district education and training settings in the best interest of the children and young people.

The work of the District Inspector complements and supports the scheduled programme of inspections and provides a valuable opportunity to engage professionally, outside the context of formal inspection.  At all times, District Inspectors report as they find in order to affirm strengths and promote improvement in the interest of all learners and trainees.

District Inspectors:

  • gain a detailed knowledge and understanding of the education and training settings in the locality and their context;
  • are usually team members on full inspections of education and training settings in the locality; and
  • usually lead follow-up, sustaining improvement and monitoring inspections in their locality.
